Longtime supporters Susan and Charlie have two goals: First, they want to make sure Tulane continues to receive support after they're gone. Second, they want to memorialize Charlie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jones.
Susan and Charlie make a $50,000 donation to Tulane, which we invest, and each year, a portion of the income from the invested money will be used to support our mission in honor of the Joneses. Plus, Susan and Charlie qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction on their taxes.
Bob and Ellen are parents of a current graduating senior, Joshua. They want to make a gift to Tulane but would also like to provide for Joshua as he starts his new career. Bob and Ellen place assets valued at $100,000 in a 10% charitable remainder annuity trust which pays fixed income of $10,000 each year to Joshua for 5 years.
Bob and Ellen are eligible for an immediate federal income tax charitable deduction of approximately $53,921. At the end of the term of the trust, 5 years, the amount placed in trust, plus net earnings, minus the payments made will be transferred to Tulane to further its mission.
